Why does this speaker cost $229 000? - Part 2

Today we turn our attention to the Magico Q7 Mk II‘s tweeter. Now in its fifth generation, the MBD5 is the result of over five years of exhaustive R and D combing exotic materials and precision engineering.

To create an ideal driver material, the tweeter’s 28mm beryllium dome is vapour coated with a five micron layer of diamond. This process significantly increases the dome’s stiffness without adding any significant mass. The tweeter’s motor structure is machined to extremely close mechanical tolerances featuring an under-hung structure and an acoustically optimised back chamber. The driver’s voice coil is then mounted in a relatively long gap which translates to a more linear operation as the coil remains within the gap’s magnetic field regardless of position or excursion.
